National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is here and it’s time you start writing that novel! The challenge is to write 50,000 words in the month, which is a basic rough draft for a novel.
This would mean writing 1, 666 words per day or 12, 500 words per week, but you decide how you want to do it.
My suggestion: don’t look at the number of words you’ve written, just write and keep writing. The emphasis isn’t on the number of words, but what you write.
How do you start?
- Visit the site and set up the handle you’ll use, email address and password.
- Choose your home region and personal events near you.
- Start writing now, since 1 November is already here.
- Update your account with your word count whenever you want; daily, every other day, twice a week, weekly, etc.
There are meeting times in your area to meet with other writers and discuss your work, or visit places like your participating library, to write. All of this information is on the site for you and is an invaluable source of support.
Being around other writers and storytellers is a wonderful experience. They can help to springboard ideas, talk about word usage, plot lines, organization and story directions.
If you’re not a writer, I’d suggest trying anyway.
Why?
Storytellers aren’t always writers.
Sometimes the one with the best product at the end isn’t the writer, but the best storyteller.
Now do it! It’s free!
I did!
