Sherman Alexie had an idea last year; “Indies First” is about authors connecting to independent booksellers, where the author can sell books, sign them and help out the indie bookstore. Last year’s event was extremely successful. Daniel Handler, aka Lemony Snicket, in that same vein, began Upstream, which partners authors with booksellers for signed copies of their work.
This holiday season, Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer are leading the way for authors to support their local independent booksellers. That’s happening this Friday, yes Black Friday, for author special appearances, signings and selling books at your local independent bookstore.
Have you ever had the experience of your local bookstore closing? Don’t let it happen again; go out and buy from them and maybe meet one of your favorite authors! This is a great way to support your local bookseller! They’re just as important to readers as they are to writers; so forget about Walmart, Costco, Barnes and Noble, and support the small gems that used to be part of our regular landscape.
